I have always admired the effects black and white photography has on me. I have always reasoned that it invites others to digest the image in a way that a colour image would not. Although some may think that removing the colour means taking something away, I feel it adds to a scene – it accentuates the subject matter, and allows the viewer to interpret the scene much more clearly.

I have created a tasty little Tumblr blog to allow me to upload my iPhone digital pics quickly and easily.

I love the selection of retro-esque applications on my phone and I happily snap away using them. I’m simply going to (hopefully) upload at least one of these a day onto the Tumblog. A visual diary of sorts, and, while intergrated with my Facebook account, it’ll be visible to many online buddies. A nice way to keep snapping away without having to carry the dSLR around all the time.

“Broken Jetty”, “Crawfordsburn Rock Study” and “Ballyhalbert Stones” pictures have been entered into Fine Art Landscape section of the Px3 Photography Competition.

The “Prix de la Photographie, Paris” (Px3) strives to promote the appreciation of photography, to discover emerging talent, and to introduce photographers from around the world to the artistic community of Paris. Winning photographs from this competition are displayed in Paris and published in the high-quality, full-color Px3 Annual Book.

Px3 Judges:
Juried by leading editors, publishers, curators, gallery owners, consultants, creative directors, and art directors, Px3 brings the best of photography from across the globe to Paris.

It seems all entries are very closely scrutinised. From px3.fr:
All entries are pre-screened by Px3 one week after the final deadline on iMAC 20″ calibrated moniters. Mailed entries are viewed under daylight corrected lights. Px3 may request digital files or scan mailed entries for official judging.

Official judging is done over several weeks by our distinguished jury of
experts. We ask our jury to view the entries on Apple Cinema Display.
The jury rates each entry from one to ten (one being the lowest, ten the
highest). The scores are then tallied and the winners are selected.

Px3 asks each judge to use the same criteria when reviewing the photographs: originality, creativity, excellence of execution, and overall impact. To all the jurors, Px3 offers sincere thanks for taking the time and care with which they review each and every entry.

Things will definitely progress on the printing-front, however in the new year. I’m still torn between the Epson r2400 and the newer r2880…

Keep ‘em peeled.
